A Bahamian realtor teamed up with international real estate powerhouse Re/Max to broaden its reach into the international luxury market.
Matt Sweeting, chief executive of 1 OAK Bahamas, told Guardian Business that the partnership with Re/Max is an opportunity for him to take advantage of the luxury real estate market by adding the expertise of a world-renown real estate agency to his portfolio.

“We just signed agreements to become REMX 1 OAK Bahamas,” Sweeting said. “This move was in alignment with our ambitions to better serve the local market.
“We also appreciate that luxury buyers seem to be led and want to work with brands they are familiar with internationally and, therefore, connecting with franchise brands when they’re looking for Bahamian real estate.”
Sweeting typically focuses on the local housing market, but with Re/Max he can now put energy into the high-end luxury market that continues to sustain high interest from investors.
“We appreciate that The Bahamas is still dealing with the low, low inventory issues and arguably a housing crisis,” he said.
Andrea Oxford, vice president of expansion for Re/Max Caribbean and Central America, said at the signing on Wednesday: “We are so excited that 1 Oak is now officially REMAX 1 OAK.
“So what does this mean for The Bahamas? It means that now buyers and sellers can be better represented with professionals that have over 50 years experience. All of our Re/Max agents in The Bahamas are currently being trained to be the best of the best. So, we are really excited about this, and we are super looking forward to the future of REMAX in The Bahamas.”
REMAX is the largest real estate network globally, with over 150,000 agents in approximately 110 countries and roughly 9,000 offices as of late 2024/early 2025.
“With REMAX being the largest brokerage by agent count and transactions globally, we thought that there was no better partnership franchise opportunity than with Re/Max,” Sweeting said.
Sweeting added, “We’re excited about this. I think we deliver a pretty good service to the local market, and it’s where our history is, as 99 percent of our transactions in the past have been to the local market. And so now with this region, with this network, we’re excited to be able to expand our portfolio and our reach and give our clients who own luxury real estate locally the widest exposure.
“In addition, we believe that the public deserves a higher level of service from their real estate professional. And we think with the training, the resources, and the training and resources provided within the franchise system within the network is going to raise the profile of the professionalism of the agents.”
